Enamel, Sapphire and Plique-a-Jour Sterling Silver Fairy Necklace - NB179

from $950.00

This art nouveau fairy necklace (available in 2 sizes) is built in sterling silver and highlights blue and green plique-a-jour transparent enamel in the wings. Throughout the design, several other surfaces are covered with a vitreous enamel adding color and texture to the design. The body of the fairy is gold plated which allows for it to stand out in the design. In the swirls across the top of the design, there are .60ct of round cut white sapphires (.25ct in smaller option) and two round cut blue sapphires weighing .20ct (.10ct in smaller option). Dropping from the bottom tip of the design is a briolette cut blue topaz. The attached chain is 10” on each side with a “corked” bead at one end that allows for the chain to be pulled through and shortened if a shorter length is desired for a particular wearing. The chain and fairy are rhodium plated for easy care.

Plique-à-jour: An intricate enameling technique where transparent or translucent enamel is fused into cells within a metal framework, without a backing, allowing light to pass through, creating a stained-glass effect. The name, derived from the French for "letting in daylight," highlights this characteristic. It's a challenging technique, often compared to miniature stained glass.

Vitreous enamel—also known as porcelain enamel: A durable, glassy coating formed by fusing powered glass to a substrate, usually metal, at high temperatures. This process creates a smooth, non-porous, and visually appealing surface that is widely used in various applications due to its resistance to heat, chemicals, and corrosion.
